Biography

DNA: 46% Great Britain 26% Ireland/Scotland/Wales 10% Europe South

Born: Corpus Christi, Texas

High School: Mar Vista in Imperial Beach, California (class of '67)

College: BBA/Computer Information Systems - University Alaska Southeast in Juneau, Alaska; University of San Diego - paralegal studies

Career: 5+ years statistical technician for Department of Correction, Juneau, Alaska. (Loved my job, but moved back to San Diego in 1995 as parents weren't well and wanted me closer.)

20+ years as paralegal in San Diego, California. Retired 2015 and moved to Colorado.

My dad was in the Navy and we traveled a lot and lived in a lot of places across the U.S.

I have lived in Texas, Florida, Tennessee, California, North Dakota and 18 years in Alaska.

Currently live with my husband of 21+ years, and our 3 cats, in a 19' travel trailer, off the grid, on our 41 acres of land in southwest Colorado.

My interest in my family tree started with an assignment from one of my high school teachers. He wanted us to trace our family tree back to our great grandparents. I had some information on my father's side of the family but nothing on my mother's, and she was not forth coming with the information. I had to call an aunt in Maine to get my grandparent's and great grandparent's names. THIS started my research and it has been going now for over 52 years.

Because gremlins sometimes happen in the WikiTree Forest, it appears you didn't receive some stops on the guided tour:

5. The WikiTree forest and How to Dig a Little Deeper

Carolyn --

You've been here for three weeks now! We hope your profiles are starting to come together and that you've enjoyed getting to know all of us a little better.

You're probably getting a good feel for the collaborative nature of WikiTree by now. We know that collaboration isn't always easy. So, we've put together a few pointers that can make working in this type of environment a little easier: How to be a Successful WikiTreer.

As always, your questions are welcome!

Carolyn,

It is perfectly OK to use yourself or your parent as a source. This usually applies to information about members of your immediate family such as siblings, parents, grandparents. Simply state that you know the information based on conversation with the person involved.

At some point later you may be able to add actual documentation but that can wait.

Shirley

Hi Carolyn, I'm so happy to see you here on WikiTree. This is a wonderful website where researchers can collaborate on their common ancestral lines and help each other with our research. I'll be lending a hand with coding inline sources in the narrative in the biography section, just so you know what I'm doing when you see my name pop up in your family feed. Would you like me to add you as a profile manager to all the profiles in your Flaugher line?

Hi Carolyn–

I'm a member of the Mentor project, and I just wanted to check in and see how things are going. Do you have any questions I can help you with?

Shirley

I have been working on my family tree for over 50 years and would like to share my tree with wikitree.
You are now a confirmed member, and you can begin adding your family members. As we've stated, WikiTree is quite different from other genealogy sites. So, we've put together a guided tour to help you learn how to use it. Your first stop is How to Start Climbing Our Tree.

Tomorrow, you'll hear from a Mentor who will check in to see how you're doing and answer any questions you might have.

Next week, you'll get another message with your next stop on the guided tour.

You can also meet some of our members by joining in the fun with our Question of the Week in the G2G forum:Do you have a favorite photo of an ancestor?

Welcome!

KBA
