Biography

Mary Ann Flawn was born in Deptford, London, England on February 26, 1816.^[1] She was the daughter of William Flawn and Mary Ore. Mary Ann was baptised at St. Paul Deptford on February 26, 1816.^[2] The page of Hugenot families states that all William and Mary's children were baptised at Bethnal Green, but it appears that they moved to Deptford sometime between 1910 and 1916.

On August 18, 1839, Mary married Edward Bartholomew at St. Paul, Deptford.^[3] They had six children, four of them are listed on the 1851 Census.^[4] Four children are also listed on the 1871 census but with the exception of Mary, who is listed on both, these are younger children and the last two listed are in fact one person Charles Arthur.^[5]

Mary Flawn is the descendant of a Huguenot emigrant.

Research Notes There is no birth record for Arthur, listed on the 1871 Census, but Charles is listed as Charles Arthur and his birth date is 1860. It would appear that the enumerator mistakenly thought that Charles Arthur was two people,
