William was born 29th of October, 1803, on a plantation near Flemington, Georgia, the son of William Fleming and Catherine Winn.[1][2]
He practised law in Savannah, Georgia, United States.[3]
At 25, on the 20th of November, 1828, he married Eliza Ann Maxwell in Liberty, Georgia, United States.[4]
At 44, from 1847 to 1849 and 1853–1868, he served as a judge of the superior court of Chatham County, Georgia.
At 47, in 1850, he was living in Chatham County with Eliza and their 5 children.[5]
At 57, in 1860, he was living in 15th District, Liberty, Georgia, United States with Eliza and 2 adult children.[6]
At 76, from the 10th of February to the 3rd of March,1879, he was elected as a Democrat to the 45th Congress. He was not a candidate for renomination.[7]
At 76 also, from 1879 until his retirement in 1881, on account of ill health, he served as a judge of the Superior Court of Savannah County, Georgia.[8]
At 82, on the 19th of August, 1886, he died, in Savannah, Chatham, and was buried in the Laurel Grove Cemetery (North), Savannah, Chatham, Georgia, United States. [9][10][11] His Yale College obituary says he died at his home in Walthourville, Liberty Co., GA. [12]
