Robert was born in 1837. He was the son of James Fleming and Ann Gibb. He passed away in 1919.
Robert Gibb's grandfather was James Fleming (1760-1838) James Fleming is known as the first white settler in Adborough Township, Elgin County, Ontario, Canada. He settled on the property in 1796. The original cabin was burned down in the war of 1812-13 by the invading army of General Harrison Fled and took refuge near Fairfield then Dawn Township but returned to build new cabin Year unknown. The property, Con 1 BF lot 6 Aldborough Township, was divided in two parts, East part and West part. Robert Gibb Fleming sold the east part in 1871. Robert's brother James Wellington Fleming (1843-1923) sold the west part in 1877. Thus ended the ownership of this land by the Fleming family. Although the family cemetery is still standing on the river flats at this location .
