Research Notes

In the 1650 and 1667 Land Tax rolls, Robert Flemynge, father of Thomas, was recorded as proprietor for Moness and Dercullie[3]

Thomas was responsible for financial matters in the estate in Moness. Thomas Flemming of Moness in the Shire of Perth was appointed by Act of Queen Anne in the second session of her first parliament in August 1704 to be a Commissioner for Ordering and Uplifting Supply for necessary uses for the Crown from the lands of Moness[4].

William Murray Marquess of Tullibardine wrote on 30 August 1745 to his tenants on the Atholl lands in Perthshire seeking their support in the Jacobite army raised against the English. He wrote urging them to appear at Blair Castle "immediatly in arms, with all the men you can get together, to join the royall standard". Amongst those to whom his scroll was sent were "Thos. & Robert Fleeming, Elder and Yr of Muness"[5] indicating that Thomas and his eldest son Robert were still residing in Moness at that time.
