Biography

Private Christopher Fletcher was wounded at ANZAC in August 1915. He suffered gunshot wounds to his legs and was taken to St Thomas' Hospital in London where he was said to be in serious condition. He went to Samoa with the advance party and on returning to NZ left with the fifth reinforcements. He was in the employ of JC Spedding Ltd when he was enlisted.


MEN WHO HAVE FALLEN - PERSONAL PARAGRAPHS. NEW ZEALAND HERALD, VOLUME LII, ISSUE 16063, 1 NOVEMBER 1915, PAGE 6 PRIVATE C. L. FLETCHER. Mrs. W. T. Fletcher, of Trafalgar Street, Onehuuga, has received word that her youngest son, Private Christopher Laurie Fletcher, who was wounded at Anzac in August is at present in St. Thomas's Hospital, London, suffering from gunshot wounds in the leg. His condition at the date of the communication was reported to be serious. Private Fletcher is one or three brothers on active service. He went to Samoa with the advance party and on returning to New Zealand left with the fifth reinforcements. He was in the employ of J. C. Snedding, Ltd., when he enlisted.


NEW ZEALAND HERALD, VOLUME LX, ISSUE 18397, 12 MAY 1923, PAGE 11 EX-SOLDIER DESERTED. PETITION AGAINST WIFE A soldier's marriage in England in 1916 had its sequel in the case of Christopher Fletcher. (Mr. Moody) against Hilda Fletcher, which was heard in the Supreme Court yesterday, before Mr. Justice Stringer. The petitioner stated that after living with him for some time in Auckland his wife returned to England in April. 1919. ostensibly for a short holiday. She had since refused to come back. An order was made for restitution of conjugal rights within 90 days of service of the order.


UNHAPPY MARRIAGES. AUCKLAND STAR, VOLUME LV, ISSUE 120, 22 MAY 1924, PAGE 7 WENT BACK TO ENGLAND. Christopher Fletcher (Mr. Alan Moody) was granted a decree nisi against Hilda Fletcher on the ground of failure to comply with an order of the Court for restitution of conjugal rights. The petitioner married the woman in England and brought her out to New Zealand. After a stay here Mrs. Fletcher expressed a desire to go to England to see her parents, and, petitioner paying her fare, she departed, taking the Children. He filed a petition for restitution of conjugal rights, and an order was made for Mrs. Fletcher's return, which she failed to comply with. His Honor granted a decree nisi.
