Biography

Charles was born in about 1845 in New York. He was the son of Archelaus Fletcher and Matilda (Unknown) Fletcher. Age shown as 23 on enlistment.^[1]

In the 1850 census Charles (age about 5) was living in Naples, Ontario, New York.^[2]

In the 1860 census Charles (age about 15) was living in Italy, Yates, New York, United States. Arthur 84, Charles 15, Croger 12, Mary 2. All black, Arthur PP $25, birthplace unknown, others born in NY.^[3]

Enlistment: 21 December 1863. Enlisted for 3 years, age 23, 5'8", black complexion, black hair, black eyes. Born in Greece, NY (probably wrong). Died Aug 18, 1864.

Charles died at the age of about 19 on 7 November 1864 in SC. Cause of death was 26th USCT.^[4]
