Mrs. Sarah Boden and her daughters, Emma and Phoebe, were assisted immigrants to Nelson aboard the ship Gertrude. [1][2]They arrived in Nelson via Wellington on 13 June 1868.[3]
Sarah married James Lovell[4] in 1870 [5] and Sarah had twins, James Joseph[6] and Alfred Henry. [7] Notes about the Takaka Pioneer Memorial suggest her maiden name was Fletcher. There is a marriage to Edward Boden registered at Stourbridge in 1851[8] and a death of Edward Boden there in 1862.[9] There are also births for both Emma and Phoebe Boden in Stourbridge. Stourbridge is very close to Cresset Lane, where Sarah was living on application for immigration.
Sarah's date of birth is a guess and it is likely she was born sometime between 1822 and 1840. The 1914 death and burial of Sarah Lovell in Nelson appears to be most likely.[10] Assuming this is the correct Sarah, she would have been younger than 92, given that she would have been 49 when James and Alfred were born.
