Josiah was listed in the 1860 census and was married in that year. Unfortunately, he drowned when the schooner “Susan Baker” ran aground on the Davis Jenkins Ledge on the southern point of Shore Acres in Scituate, only the captain being saved. James and John Redman also perished. In the same storm another schooner with a load of lumber from Bangor ran aground. The captain’s wife had just died and he had recently lost his house by fire. He had taken his three sons with him on the trip. Only the captain survived.[1] That poor man… I can’t imagine.
Mary married Amasa less than four months later. Amasa, Mary and Ella are listed in the 1870 census for Biddeford and Amasa and Mary are in the 1880 census. She had died in 1897 prior to the 1900 census and Amasa was a border at a rooming house in Saco.
From a record from Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco it appears as though Bradbury and Ella were the owners and probably purchased the plot at the death of their daughter Minnie in 1889. Ella’s mother was then buried there and then Marie’s husband Amasa. Ella’s half-sister, Gertrude and her husband are also buried there. The plot was then given to Bradbury and Ella’s daughter Gertrude who gave it to her son Don Nunan whose family is still the owner.
