Biography

Elizabeth was born in 1758. She was the daughter of Richard Floyd and Arrabella Jones. She passed away in 1820. She Married John P. Delancey on 28 Sept. 1785 She was the daughter of Richard Floyd IV and his wife Arabella Jones; third-great-granddaughter of Sir John and Lady Mary Floyd. She married on Sept. 28, 1785, to John Peter Delancey, the son of Governor James De Lancey and Anne Heathcote, and the grandson of Caleb Heathcote, Lord Scarsdale, who leased the Angevine farm at Scarsdale to the Huguenot family for 100 years. They resided at Heathcote Hill. She was the mother of Mrs. James Fenimore Cooper of Angevine Farm. Parents: Arabella Jones Floyd 1734–1785

Research Notes: On 27 Nov. 1788 the Office of American claims recorded a claim made by Elizabeth deLancey of the Province of New York submitted on 30 Jan 1786 through her Attorney John Paterson regarding her property lost near King's Bridge during the American Revolution. She states that "having four sons in His Majesty's Service she became obnoxious to the Americans and was obliged to leave her Estate... and take Refuge in the City of New York." Her account was deemed "fair and just" by a Board instituted by Sir Guy Carleton. No husband is mentioned
