He was born and reared in Sumter, where he lived until relocating to Tennessee in June of 2020 to be near his son and daughter-in-law. Jimmy served in the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1972. He graduated from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia, with a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice. Upon graduation, Jimmy returned to Sumter and established his wholesale grocery business, Floyd Wholesale, which operated for 35 years until his retirement in 2013. Several years later, he began a second career with Jones Chevrolet Cadillac in the service department as their courtesy driver.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Walden and Dorothy Caughman Floyd of Sumter; and his brother, Michael Davis Floyd of Ridgeway.
A devoted and loving husband and father, Jimmy is survived by his wife of 41 years, Abbie Gardner Floyd of Sevierville; and his son, Benjamin Derek Floyd and daughter-in-law, Christle Michelle Floyd, of Dandridge. He is also survived by his sister, Dianne Floyd Weatherly of Sumter; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews that he dearly loved.
A private graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday in Knoxville, Tennessee.
