WHYBURN.—June 20, 1943, at Manly, Mary Ann, beloved wife of James Michael Whyburn, of 74 Belgrave Street, Manly, and loving mother of Florence, Winnie, Clarence, and Vera. R.I.P. Interment West Maitland.

Mrs. Mary Ann Whyburn, who died recently at the Manly District Hospital, was interred in the West Maitland cemetery. She was born at the Burning Mountain Hotel, Wingen, in 1863, and lived at Quirindi with her parents, the late James and Hanorah Fogarty, of the Commercial Hotel, and later with her husband, J. M. Whyburn, stationmaster at West Maitland, Alandale, Deepwater, Guyra, Narrabri Rock Junction and Corrimal (South Coast). On his retirement Mr. and Mrs. Whyburn became the proprietors of the Railway Hotel, Muswellbrook. Mrs. Whyburn was greatly respected for her generous; and active sympathy where sickness and trouble were prevalent, and was foremost in the Red Cross movement during the outbreak of pneumonic influenza. She took, an active part in collecting and raising funds for the erection of churches at Quirindi, Deepwater, Guyra, also the Armidale Cathedral. She was a devoted Catholic, and was attended during her last illness by the Very Rev. Monsignor J. McDonald, P.P. Manly. Her husband, three daughters and one son survive; also three sisters and one brother.
