Ann (Fogarty) Hickson was born in the Colony of New South Wales (1788-1900)


  • The below notes are for the Baker/Hickson Family History by Len & Glen Baker
  • NAME:- Ann Fogarty could also be Nancy born to Patrick Fogarty & Mary Ann MacCarthy (Fogarty)
  • BORN:- 1837 in Port Macquarie NSW a bit early for NSW BDM system.
  • CHRISTENED:- unkown as yet
  • MARRIED:- 10th November 1856 to Thomas Henry Hickson at Kempsey Macleay River NSW BDM 1528/1856
  • DIED:- 25th February 1913 Sydney NSW, Plus Ann lived at her daughters place at 74 Hill St Leichardt Sydney NSW Aust??? aged approx 76
  • DEATH MEDICAL:- unsure as yet but heart troubles was quoted by other family members.
  • BURIAL:- Could be the same place as her husband Thomas in the Salvation Army Section in Rookwood Cemetery NSW Aust
  • OCCUPATION:- Domestic Duties & looking after a tribe of children.
  • RESIDENCE:- Born Port Macquarie, married Kempsey then lived in Frederickton/Kempsey area & moved to Leichardt Sydney.
  • SPORTS/HOBBIES:- not listed but with 10 plus children what time would you have for any sports or hobbies.
  • RELIGION:- her early life was Church Of England, but could be buried with Thomas in the Salvation Army section in Rookwood Cemetery???


  • NOTES:-
  • The Fogarty Family had farm land in or around the East Kempsey swamp come Pola creek area named after them called Fogarty's flat there is a story where some of our family drowned in a flood at Fogarty's flat while moving cattle, more on that later.
  • When looking up records keep in mind that the spelling of Hickson Hixson Hixon Higson etc. The scribe of the day spelling was his way. Most people were illiterate in those days so could not correct the scribe.
