Incorp. at Cambridge, 1749. F.R.S. 1741. President of the Royal Society, 1741-52. Member of the French Academy, 1742. President of the Society of Antiquaries, 1750-4. Author, antiquarian, etc. Died June 28, 1754. Buried in Hillington Church, Norfolk. A monument erected to him in Westminster Abbey, in 1792. Father of Martin (1737) and brother of William (1717).
