Biography

The 1870 U.S. Federal Census records Jas. S. Folsom, age 27 born in Maine, as a farmer living in Eden, LaSalle Co., Illinois. In his household are Jane age 22 born in England, Fanny M. age 3 born in Ill. and Frank age 1 born in Illinois.[1]

The 1880 U.S. Federal Census records J.S. Folsom, age 38 born in Maine, as a farmer living in Eden, LaSalle Co., Illinois. In his household are his wife Jennie age 32 born in England, daughter Allie age 13 born in Ill., son Frank age 11 born in Ill., daughter Lillie age 2 born in Ill., and cousin S.F. Piper age 50 born in Maine and working on the farm.[2]

Frank W. Folsom and Lucy Ann Bolton were married March 8, 1894 in Center Township, Cedar County, Iowa.[3]

The 1900 U.S. Federal Census records Frank Folsom, age 31 born Dec 1868 in Illinois, as a farmer living in Center Township, Cedar Co., Iowa. In his household are his wife Lucy age 29 born Feb 1871 in Iowa, daughter Fanny E. age 4 born April 1895 in Iowa, and daughter Jennie L. age 1 born Jan 1899 in Iowa. Frank and Lucy have been married for 6 years and she has had 2 children.[4]

The 1910 U.S. Federal Census records Frank W. Folsom, age 41 born in Illinois, as a farm manager, living in Iowa Township, Cedar County, Iowa. In his household are his wife Lucy A. age 39 born in Iowa. daughter Ethel F. age 13 born in Iowa, daughter Jennie age 11, son Lee B. age 9, son Sherman F. age 7, and daughter Emma C. age 1 ½. All the children were born in Iowa. Frank and Lucy have been married for 16 years and she has had 6 children with 5 still living.[5]

The 1920 U.S. Federal Census records Frank W. Folsom, age 51 born in Illinois, as a farmer living in Moscow, Muscatine Co., Iowa. In his household are his wife Lucy age 48 born in Iowa, daughter Emma age 10 born in Iowa, and son John C. age 8 born in Iowa.[6]

An Obituary for Frank William Folsom printed in the Quad-City Times on February 25, 1937 reads: “FRANK FOLSOM, 67, SUMMONED – Moscow Township Resident Dies – Muscatine, Ia., Feb. 25 – Frank William Folsom, 67, for the past six years employed at the Newton Lang farm, Moscow township, and a lifelong resident of that community, died at 2:50 p.m. Wednesday in Hershey hospital after a brief illness. He was born Dec. 25, 1869 in LaSalle, Ill. Three sons: Lee, Dubuque; John, Walcott; and Sherman, Nashville, Tenn.; a daughter Mrs. Jennie Williams, Walcott; and eight grandchildren survive.” [7]
