Research Notes

Find a Grave Memorial 70982255 indicates that John was born at Hugo, Choctaw County, Oklahoma. The Trail of Tears was part of the Indian removal, an ethnic cleansing and series of forced displacements of approximately 60,000 Native Americans of the Five Civilized Tribes between 1830 and 1850 by the United States government. It is reasonable to assume that the information on Find a Grave is incorrect. Documentation as to Iso Tek Nashoba as the first wife to John Folsom is sketchy at best. The profile for Iso Tek Nashoba when it was created was sourced from wc.rootsweb.com. She is also referred to as "Daughter of Nashoba" and Nashoba Jones. Her parents were Samuel "Nashoba" Jones and a Unknown Full Blood Choctaw Woman. In the web site folsomfamily.org no name is used simply [3339] and a reference to Elizabeth Knowles Folsom, Genealogy of the Folsom Family-Vol. II, (Folsom Family Association of America, Inc.-1938), p. 817. see:

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

Folsom-1427 and Folsom-4 appear to represent the same person because: Same birth and death details. I couldn't find any sources for the name of the first wife, but from the bio of Folsom-4, both Clarissa and John seem to have been children. Thanks for reviewing if these are duplicates!

Hi James, please could you have the sources that you have for John's wife. Thanks so much

I created this profile in 2018 using RootsWeb's World Connection Project. Since that time, RootsWeb was taken over by Ancestry which changed the website making it much more difficult to find information so I discontinued using RootsWeb. I did look at it again and found several GEDCOM created profiles which indicate dates of birth to be 1805 or 1812. I do not have access to Ancestry so I cannot look for sources there. I have removed myself from the profile.

Folsom-1427 and Folsom-4 are not ready to be merged because: Looking into variations of wives and children

In looking through my sources for the Folsom family, I was not able to find more detail for John Folsom other that what is listed on the two profiles. Although the birth details are different, in my opinion the two profiles do represent the same person. The Folsom-4 profile is in line with the information from the source "Genealogy of the Folsom Family" including listing "Clarissa" as a child of the unknown first wife. The profile for Folsom-1427 looks to be the same person, listing the child "Clarissa" however providing a name for the first wife. I recommend the profiles be merged. I've created a page for the Folsom family listing sources that might be helpful as well Folsom Family of Choctaw Heritage
