Jacques Fontenot, son of Philippe Fontenot and Marie Jeanne Brignac, was born c.1753 at French Fort Toulouse in the pays d'Alibamons, Nouvelle-France. In 1763 when France lost most of its New World holdings to England and decommissioned Fort Toulouse, most of its French inhabitants, including his family, migrated west to Louisiana.
He married Eulalie Doucet at the Opelousas Post in Louisiana in 1777.[1]
