Clarissa was born on November 16, 1817, the sixth out of eight children born to Adonijah Foote and Clarissa Woodworth. She was born on the Springfield Armory grounds where her father was the Master Armorer until his untimely death in 1825. [1]
Clarissa married Captain James Byers Hatch in 1836. He became a master mariner in the golden age of sailing ships. He had also grown up in Springfield and was the son of Solomon Hatch, storekeeper in the early years of the the Springfield Armory.
Clarissa died in Springfield on 22 March 1881, age 63. Her daughter Mabel Hatch Tremain died just one day earlier, also in Springfield. They are both buried near each other in the Springfield Cemetery, as is Clarissa's husband.[2]
