Biography

Jean was the daughter of John Forbes and Elizabeth Barlow.[1]

She married firstly, John Stewart, This Earl of Atholl circa 1542..[1][2][3]

The Earl was dead within six months.

She married secondly, Alexander Hay, of Dalgety after the 17th of November 1545.[1][2]

Alexander Hay died the following year.

She married thirdly, as his first wife, William Leslie before the 17th of January 1549/50.[1][2] They had:[4]

  1. John.
  2. William.
  3. Arthur.
  4. Gilbert.
  5. Andrew.
  6. Jane.
  7. Margaret
  8. Isobel
  9. Christian.
  10. Elizabeth.

Research Notes

  • If she married John Stewart, apparently firstly in 1542, I have adjusted dates to allow for the birth of 8 Leslie children before she died.

Forbes-1280 and Forbes-175 appear to represent the same person because: per source listed, Paul, James Balfour, Sir, 1846-1931 :The Scots Peerage, these are intended to be the same person based on the husbands attached
