Biography

In 1728, John between the age of 14 and 21 years made the choice of his mother, Abigail to be his guardian.[1]

In 1736, John is mentioned in his brother, Edward Fobes' will.[2]

Probate

The will of John Fobes of Bridgewater, yeoman, was dated 9 January 1783 and proved on 3 February 1783 in Plymouth. He mentions his wife Martha (executor), his children, Edward Fobes, Martha Fobes, and Libeus Fobes (executor), his grandson, John Fobes, and his brother Josiah Fobes.[3]

In 1792, his widow Martha received her dower.[4]

Note

When Fobes-55 was merged into Fobes-15 on 20 December 2017, father and son, both named John and both having a son named Edward, were merged together. The youngest three children in the merged profile, the second Edward (Fobes-16), Martha (Fobes-18), and Libeus Fobes-17, were all born 14 or more years after Fobes-15 died because he was their grandfather, not their father. This is a new entry for the son, in essence undoing the merge.

Forbes-3796 and Fobes-243 appear to represent the same person because: This merges Forbes-3796 into Fobes-243 as the previous comment suggested.

Forbes-3796 and Fobes-243 do not represent the same person because: I am rejecting this merge because it merges Fobes-243 into Forbes-3796. I will propose a merge that merges the opposite way.

Forbes-3796 and Fobes-243 appear to represent the same person because: I created John Forbes-3796 in error. Please merge to Fobes-243. Thank you.

In the Biography section, he is listed as the son of John Fobes-15 and Martha Pierce. John Fobes-243, the son of John Fobes-15, was the husband of Martha Pierce. These two Johns had previously been erroneously merged, perhaps contributing to the confusion. I rejected the proposed merge with Fobes-243 because he is the father of Edward, Martha, and Libeus who are listed as siblings in this record. The fairly well researched Fobes Family in America referenced in Fobes-243 does not show him having a son named a John.
