Biography

Catherine was born about 1805 in Cluny, the daughter of John Forbes and Isabella Reid. She married William Brown on 18 Jul 1835 in Kinnellar. In the 1841 census William, a Farmer, and Catherene were living at Blackchambers in Kinnellar with their children William, Alexander, Mary and James along with a number of servants. In the 1851 census they are at Cotton, Kintore with their children William, a Farmer, Alexander, Mary and James and one servant. In the 1861 census, they are still at Cottown, Kintore. William is still a Farmer at age 83, and they have their children Mary, James and Isabella living with them. Also there are a couple of servants and one lodger. William died 01 Dec 1862 in Cotton Kintore at age 86. In the 1871 census, 66 year old Catherine is living with her son James at Upper Cotton in Kintore, her daughter Isabella, granddaughter Annabella aka Anne Brown, and 3 servants. Also there is her Daughter in Law Christina (Norrie) Brown and Christina's 6 month old son Charles J F Brown, who are both visiting. Catherine died at age 67 on 22 Aug 1872 at Jolliett Bank Lane, North Broadford in Aberdeen. She had a tumour of the right ovary and exhaustion. Her son Alexander was present when she died. He lived at 70 Catherine St in Aberdeen. Catherine is buried in the Kirkyard of Kinellar.
