He was a soldier and member of the 1st Hussars when he enlisted for the Boer War 3 Jan 1900, serving with the Royal Canadian Dragoons (Reg No 214). He transferred to the Canadian Mounted Rifles (Reg No 357) on 5 May 1900. He earned the Queen's Medal, South Africa with two clasps (Cape Colony, Orange Free State). His brother was J. C. Forbes of Rondale Terrace, Newcastle-on-Tyne, England. [1][2]
