Biography

William Bernard Forbes was born on January 27, 1896, in Central Woods Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada, to Rosa Avery Garron, age 35, and Capt. Wm. James Forbes III, age 31. In 1901 his family was living in Woods Harbour where his father was a fisherman. ^[1] In 1911 the family was in the same location, though many of his older siblings had moved away. ^[2] When William registered for the World War I draft in about 1917 he was living at 8 James St in Malden, Massachusetts, he was already a Naturalized United Statesa citizen, and he was working as a fisherman in south Boston at a company owned by his father.^[3]

He returned to Canada and married Lena Annie Smith on March 15, 1918, in Central Woods Harbour. They had six children in 18 years. Shortly after their marriage they moved permanently to Massachusetts.

In 1930 they were living at 165 Central Avenue in Medford, Massachusetts. ^[4] In 1940 they were living at 39 Lambert Street in Medford, and William was a commercial fisherman. ^[5] When he registered for the World War II draft in 1942, he was employed by the O'Hara Brothers at the Boston Fish Pier, sailing on the schooner Shamrock. He was 5' 9 1/2" tall, wweighed 210 pounds, with a light complexion, gray eyes, and brown hair. ^[6]

He died on November 16, 1948, in Middlesex, Massachusetts, at the age of 52.
