Lewis Byington Ford was born November 1st, 1890 in Downieville, Sierra County, California[1]. He was the son of Attorney-General Tirey L. Ford and Mary Emma Byington.

During the Great War Ford enlisted in the California National Guard and went to Officers Reserve Corps Training Camp at the Presidio of San Francisco where he was commissioned as Lieutenant. [2] He then went to France during World War I. He became Captain in the 26th "Yankee" Division. In France, he trained at the St. Cyr Cavalry school (French military academy).

At the end of the war in 1919, Ford became a manager at the Del Monte Properties in Pebble Beach, in Monterey County, California; heading their real estate department for twelve years. Byington Ford was a prominent Monterey Peninsula real estate developer.

Byington married Marion Boisot November 17, 1920, at the Pebble Beach Lodge in Pebble Beach, California. The couple had three daughters, Mary Jane Ford, Patricia Reid Ford, and Audrey Ford.

In June 14, 1935 Marion (Boisot) Ford was granted a divorce from Byington on the grounds of extreme cruelty. Mrs. Ford was awarded custody of her children. A property settlement was incorporated in the divorce. [3] [4]

He remarried in Feb 23, 1939, to his 2nd wife, Ruth Austin Arlen. The couple moved to Carmel, California.

Byington Ford also served in the military during World War II holding the rank of Major. He was the Executive officer of Dayton Army Air Field in 1944, in Dayton, Ohio. His daughter Mary Jane, also served during World War II, in the Women's Army Corps (WAC).

Fast forward to the 1970's, Byington and his wife, Ruth, who was a key figure in local projects to help children with learning disabilities, made their home at the Carmel Valley Golf and Country Club until they moved to Southern California [5] [6]

In the early 1980's Ford and Ruth move to Ventura, California.

At age of 94, Byington Ford died of Pancreatic cancer at his home in Ventura, California, January 19, 1985. [7]
