Sydney Ford has Irish ancestors.

Private Sydney Ford was killed in the Somme offensive 1916 during World War I.

Sydney was born in 1895. He was the son of Richard Ford and Emma Moffat.[1]

He was educated at the Merrivale and Otautau Public Schools; and after leaving, served an apprenticeship as a carpenter. He relocated to the North Island, enlisting in the 10th Reinforcements from Wanganui before transferring to the Southland detachment to be closer to his parents.[2]

He was killed at the Somme offensive, 15 Sep 1916.[2]

  • NZEF, D Company, 10th Reinforcements.
  • Born Otautau, Dec 3 1894. Farmer.
  • 5'8", Fresh complexion, Brown eyes, Brown hair, C of E.
