Emma Ford was born in 1847 ^[1] in Appleton, Cheshire, England, the daughter of Peter Ford and Rhoda (Knowles) Ford.^[2]

In 1851 and 1861 Emma was living with her parents and siblings in Parr, Lancashire. Her father was a farmer. ^{[3] [4]}

When Emma was about 25 she married John Joseph Tickle on 13 February 1872 in Christ Church, Eccleston, Lancashire. ^[5] The couple had 5 children. ^[6]

In 1881 Emma was living in Eccleston with her husband and 3 children. Her husband was a mining engineer. ^[2]

In 1891 Emma was living in Whiston, Lancashire. ^[7]
