James Cantrell Ford was born September 19, 1835 to Daniel Ford and Mary Fite probably in Smith County, Tennessee. James was counted in the 1840 census and while the 1850 census enumerates him as a farmer by 1860 he is enumerated as a blacksmith. 30 December 1860 James married Nancy Ann Turner in Wilson County, Tennessee. Nancy was the daughter of Jonathan Turner and Nancy Sneed. Sadly Nancy passed away 21 June 1869. I have found no children from this marriage. He married Nancy Catherine Turney on December 16, 1869 in Dekalb County, Tennessee. Nancy was the daughter of William A. Turney and Susan Jane Adams. [1] This marriage was blessed with 7 children: Martha Jane, Joseph Clayton, Thomas Jefferson, William Daniel, James Lannis, Delta Moses, and Nola. James occupation was always blacksmith or farmer during this time. James must have done less blacksmithing as time went on because he is consistently listed as a farmer in later censuses. James passed away July 4, 1911 at his home in Wilson County, Tennessee. [2]
