Note: BIOGRAPHY: 1891 Census - living in Lot 33, PEI was Salvation Army. 2 BIOGRAPHY: Resided 27 Jul 1920 in Ebenezer (5 mi E of Hunter River in Lot 24-on Glasgow Rd (formerly New Glasgow Road) Queens, P.E.I. 2 BIOGRAPHY: Charlottetown Guardian - 9 Aug 1940, page 1 - "Inquest opens into death of James Ford --- Charlottetown man instantly killed in highway accident at Southport ---Mr. James Ford, 50-year-old Charlottetown building contractor was instantly killed when a car which he was driving was in collision with a truck at Keppoch corner near Southport at 6:45 yesterday morning. Police said the truck was driven by Mr. Russel Downe. Miss Agnes Dicks and Mr. Roy Oakes, who were also in Mr. Ford's car, were injured in the accident. Mr. Oakes received a severe cut on the nose and other lacerations on the face and body. Miss Dicks was taken to the city hospital suffering from severe cuts to the face. The accident occurred when the three were returning to the city after spending an all night visit at the home of Mr. Stewart about 6 miles from the city. According to the evidence given at the inquest last night Mr. Ford was attempting to pass a loaded gravel truck when he collided with another truck which was coming towards him. This truck was not loaded. The entire top of the car was torn off and Mr. Ford was found with his feet in the car and his head hanging on the ground on the left hand side of the machine. The other two occupants were able to move around. The car was a 1940 Plymouth Coupe. It was in collision with an International truck. The Dicks girl was taken to the hospital while Oakes was able to go home after receiving medical attention. Yesterday morning at 11 o'clock the following jury empaneled and swore in the Dr. I. J. Yeo coroner, at the Cutcliffe Funeral Home. Messrs. James A. Brady (foreman), W. A. Rix, James Power, Patrick After viewing the body the inquest was adjourned until last night at 8 o'clock when eight witnesses were examined. Inquest Last Night - Roy Oakes testified that he lived in Charlottetown, 84 Douglas Street, was a contractor and married. He was in the accident and said it occurred when he, James Ford and Agnes Dick were coming to town about 6:30 a.m. yesterday. They were at a Mr. Stewart's house about a mile up the Montague Road about 6 miles from Charlottetown. They were about four hours having gone there about 1 a.m. They were just talking and had lunch then left for Charlottetown he said. He had nothing to drink but had one small drink of alcohol about 8 o'clock in the evening, witnesses stated. He had none with Mr. Ford, he added. Witness said he was sober. He claimed he met Ford on Euston Street. He had been visiting Stephen MacMillan and coming out met Miss Dicks. They were talking when Ford came along. They left town about 12:30 a.m. as Ford was talking about going across the river to look for carpenters. Witness said he left his car and went but they did not find any carpenters. They called at Mr. Pippy's who was a carpenter, but there was nobody home. They then came back down and called at Stewart's.".
