Biography

Amanda was born about 1825 in Canada. Her parents are at this time unknown.

Amanda married Oscar Stevens about 1846, possibly in Canada or New York. Their first daughter Mary was born in 1848 in New York.^[1]They had children:

1. Mary Stevens, born 1848, New York
2. Alfred Stevens, born 1850, New York
3. Ruby Stevens, born 1851, New York
4. Aramintha Stevens, born 1853, New York
5. Ausker Stevens, born 1855, New York
6. Amanda Stevens, born 1858, New York

In 1860 Amanda is living in Hammond, St. Lawrence, New York with her children. She is a widow. Also in the household with Amanda in 1860 are apparently her parents, Robert Ford, born 1771 in England, and Mary Ford, born 1786 in Nova Scotia.^[2]

About 1861 Amanda married again to Russell W Cleveland. On the 1870 census, she is listed as Amanda Cleveland. In her household are her children Alfred, Oscar and Amanda all listed with the surname Cleveland. Also another son listed as Russel Cleveland, born 1862 in New York. He is the son of Amanda and her second husband Russell Cleveland.^[3]
