When John was 28 he married Janet Pagan on 21 October 1863 in Leuchars, Fife, Scotland. The couple had one child: Jessie Barnett Ford.^[6]

In the 1871 census John (age 35) was living in Whixley, Yorkshire, England. farmer of 400 acres. This record ~proves~ the John Ford who married Janet Pagan. This John Ford had an older brother by four years, Gerard, who lived with them .^[1]
