Biography

Humphrey Forster (Foster) was born in 1543, age (15 on 14 Nov 1558); eldest son of his (father John III Forster who died on that date), Humphrey being afterwards placed into his mother Margery's wardship.^[1]

On 17 May 1573 Humphrey married Alic Greene, at Aldenham, Hertford, less than 2 miles from Bramfield.^[2] Humphrey and Alic's had the following children:

The History of Bramfield Manor, Hertfordshire contains info on Humphrey and his parents: In 1540, after the dissolution of the monastery of St. Albans, the king granted the manor and the church to Robert Dacres of Cheshunt, to be held of the crown in chief at a service of one twentieth part of one knight's fee. From Robert it descended to his son George, who in 1557–8 obtained licence to alienate to John Forster and Margery his wife. On his death in February, 1559, Forster bequeathed the manor of Bramfield to his wife for the term of her life, with remainder to his son Humphrey, and in 1565 Humphrey conveyed it to John Spencer, gentleman, John Spencer, citizen and grocer of London, and George Smyth, from whose hands it passed in 1567 to Edward Skegge or Skegges. A conveyance of the autumn of the same year between Skegges and Humphrey Forster (fn. 14) seems to have been made merely in confirmation of title. ^[13]

Humphrey's father, John Forster is named in the Visitation of Hertfordshire, son of Roger Forster (Foster), ^[14]

Humphrey's mother Margery UNKNOWN died at Bramfield in 1560, shortly after gaining Wardship over her son in April of 1559.^[15]

Research Notes

Humphrey's profile does not list his sibling named Richard, he is named in the same source as Humphrey under the Bio of his father John Forster.^[16]

Sources available for this time frame are scarce, besides the recommended sources, I also searched the Feet of Fines and P.C.C. wills, with no success.
