William Forsyth was an innkeeper at early Detroit. Originally of Scottish descent, he immigrated to New York around 1750 from Blackwater, Ireland. He served 14 years in the British army and was severely wounded in the capture of Quebec in 1759.
His first wife was Isabel Martin, who died in 1764.
His second wife was Emily Tyne, widow of John Kinzie. They were married in 1765.
