Biography

Elizabeth was born about 1770. She is the daughter of William Forsyth and Barbara Patton.

Prerogative Will. William Forsyth of Artikelly, par. of Aughenloo, Co. Derry To wife Barbara Foresythe the 100 pounds to be disposed of at her discretion amongst family, & "still to be kept in a tydey cow, graized & foddered yearly, & 1/4 bushel of leot seed sown in every year & 9 bushels of shilling given her every year, & 25 wheel car loads of good turf laid home to her every year, & as many petatoes as she has occasion for etc." with liberty of kitchen fire & all the house till son Robert comes of age. To son Jacob. 5 pounds To dau. Isbele 80 pounds To dau. Elizabeth 100 pounds To sons William & John 150 pounds each To son Robert farm in Artikelly, stock etc, when of age. All residue to wife Barbara unless she remarries, in which case same with her 100 pounds to be divided between sons William, Robert and John. Excrs. wife Barbara: son Jacob: brothers John & Jacob Foresyth & brother-in-law Robert Patton. signed 28 July 1789. Wm. Forsyth. witnesses. Robert Bacon. Alexander Foresyth. Hendry Forsyth. Probate granted to widow, John Forsyth, Jacob Forsyth jun. & Robert Patton, surviving excrs. 4 June 1791.[1]

Will of Barbara Forsyth of Artikelly. To daus. Elizabeth Forsyth & Isabella Forsyth als. McClenahan 50 pounds each. to sons William, Robert & John Forsyth 20 pounds each. To grandson Robert Forsyth 20 pounds. To son Jacob Forsyth farm in Artikelly during minority of son Robert in trust for bringing up testator's children "at his discretion." To dau. Elizabeth Forsyth feather beds, etc. Excrs. brother Robert Patton. Brother-in-law John Forsyth. son Jacob Forsyth. signed 10 June 1791. Barbara Forsyth, her mark. witnesses. William Forsyth, William Watson. William Morshaw. Probate granted to Robert Patton, an excr. 20 Feb 1794.[2]

Rev. John Tennent, Roseyards to Robert Tennent, Jamaica 17 Mar 1791. Excerpt from abstract in PRONI catalog: James Crosswell (Criswell) and his sister are now married as are Betty Forsyth and [?Peggy] Edmondston.[3]

Note: Possibly the Forsyth sister that was married was not Betty but Isabella since she is Isabella als McClenahan in Barbara Patton's will of 10 June 1791 and Elizabeth is not mentioned as being married.

Excerpt from photocopy of letter: ...nothing would give me so much pleasure as to hear how all my Cousins as say M W (Mr. William Tennent?), John and James Tennent, Miss Tennent [Peggy Tennent], Mrs & M Isaac Patton, my Unkle & aunt [John and Nancy Tennent]...I hope you have been down about ArteKelly since you went home as I am sure nothing would give your friends in that neighborhood so much hapiness as seing you Especially my sister Elisa... and Unkle Patton & family if you should go to that neighbor hood sister Eliza would be I am sure much pleased... [4]
