Benjamin Fort was born November 15, 1753, in Somerset county, New Jersey During the American Revolutionary War, Benjamin enlisted in the company of Captain John Polhemus, and also served with Captain William Jones, under the command of Colonel William Wines and Colonel Vroom. [1]

Benjamin is honored by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution for his military service. According to their records, he died in September, 1838, in Wayne county, Indiana. Applications for membership in the Society have been made by the descendants of his sons, James Fort, who married Elizabeth (?nee); and Joseph Fort, who married Mary Dille. [2]

Researcher's Notes

The Find A Grave memorial for his son, Joseph, indicates Joseph's mother's name is Mary Dever. The following information collected by Mrs. Russell A Garett, a descendant from Dayton, Ohio, indicates that Benjamin married in 1776, in New Jersey a Mary Williamson. [3]
