Mildred Marie (Gazaway) Skipper, 91, died peacefully at home in Sparks on June 3, 2011. Mildred was born in Magee, Mississippi to George Henry and Eliza Hollowell Fortenberry.
Mildred, also known as Millie, lived In Hawthorne for many years, and was employed by the Navy at the Hawthorne Naval Ammunition Depot until she was injured and disabled in an explosion at the depot 40 years ago.
She was preceded in death by husbands Chatman V. Gazaway (1965) and David F. Skipper (1973); parents George and Eliza Fortenberry; brothers George L., Fred L., William M., and Lacey Ray; and daughter-in-law Christine Gazaway.
She is survived by son George Prentiss (Joan) of Hawthorne, daughter Gloria Jean and son Vernon Ray, both of Sparks; grandchildren Lori, Michelle, Melissa, John "Bud", Christina, Erika and Monica; eleven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a great wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She lived a full life, but will be missed by those who loved her.
Memorial services will be held at the Reno Assembly of God Church, 524 Bell Street, Reno, June 17, at 11:00 a.m., and will be conducted by the Reverend Brent Johnson.
Internment will be in Cleveland, Mississippi at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family graciously requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
