Research Notes

According to the History of the Fortescue family, Sir John Fortescue's daughter Elizabeth did not live to adulthood. There was another John Fortescue employed within the Queen's Wardrobe who was questioned, along with his wife and daughters as a recusant. Details of this can be found in the profile of Sir John Fortescue. One of the daughters of Sir John's namesake was called Elizabeth so it can be assumed that this profile is that of that Elizabeth, therefore Sir John Fortescue is not the father of this Elizabeth and Alice Smythe is not her mother.
