Jonas was born in 1762. He was the son of Benjamin Fortner and Isabella Douglas. He passed away in 1825.

Jonas Fortner wrote his will in 1839. His wife's name was Catherine but her maiden name is not known. He came to Ontario, Canada from New Jersey about 1800.
