Biography

Nancy Fortune was born on November 8, 1810 in Franklin County, Virginia.^[1] She was the daughter of Benjamin Fortune and Mildred Carter.^[1] Nancy married John Shoemaker on February 24, 1825 in Perry County, Indiana.^[2] They had 9 known children from the census records.^[3][4][5] According to the links on FindAGrave, Nancy and John had 15 children.^[1] Although she is not detailed as such, Nancy is living with her daughter Mary Fortune Stapleton in the 1880 census.^[6] Nancy died on April 2, 1886 and is buried in the Shoemaker-Cox Cemetery, Siberia (Perry County), Indiana.^[1]
