George Edward Fossey was born on 11 March 1907 in San Francisco, California. He was the son of George Francis Fossey (1877-1956) and Adelaide Lavinia (Burns) Fossey (1878-1938). The 1920 census[1] shows George living with his family in San Francisco where his father is a railroad clerk.

Around 1928 George married Hazel (Kidd) Price (abt.1909-1994). The 1930 census[2] shows George and Hazel living in San Francisco where George is selling bonds. On 16 Jan 1932 Hazel gave birth to their famous daughter Dian Fossey (1932-abt.1985). By 1938 George and Hazel were divorced.
Then George married Mrs. Gladys Bove (née Kohler) and they moved to Marin County, just north of the city. Dian's mother Hazel married Richard Price and then moved there family to Marin county as well.
George and Gladys would divorce by 1958. Around 1959 he married Kathryn (Smith) Fossey (1907-1970).
George passed away[3] on 16 Sep 1968 in Marin County, California. He is buried[4] at Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, San Mateo County, California
