Biography

James Foster was born c1779 (from age at death) in that part of Machias, Maine, later set off as East Machias, the son of Wooden Foster and Frances Scott; died at East Machias, 21 Feb 1848, age 69y; married (1) at Machias, 7 Dec 1800, Lucy Gooch, born c1782 (from age at death), the daughter of Benjamin Gooch and Elizabeth Cates; died at East Machias, 24 Oct 1829, age 47y; married (2) probably at East Machias, c1847, Hannah Longfellow, born, 30 Nov 1779, the daughter of David Longfellow and Olive Gooch; [1] died at East Machias, 29 Oct 1854. She had married (1) at Machias, 23 Jan 1801, Joseph Simpson. [2]
