Evie Mack Alexander (Foster), born Dec 1 1903 in Simms, Bowie county, Texas USA and died of cancer on Apr 13 1984 in Lubbock, Lubbock, Texas USA. Burial took place on Apr 15 1984, the day that would have been her wedding anniversary, at Idalou Cemetery, in Idalou, Lubbock county, Texas USA. Evie's parents were James Thomas Foster and Elizabeth Isabell "Isabel", "Bell" Singleton Foster (born Athey). James was born on September 1 1870, in Collin Co., TX, USA. Belle was born on April 1 1876, in Collin Co., TX. Evie had 11 siblings: James Arthur Foster, Harvey Simms Foster, Lewis Wesley Foster, George Franklin Foster, Bessie Lee Wheeler (born Foster), Willie Belle Nall (born Foster), Jodie Sidney Foster, Jessie Marion Foster, Ivie May Foster, Mary Ellen Foster and Henry Edwin Moore (her eldest half-brother. Fred Edgar Alexander came riding into her life when she was about 16 years old. His excuse was that he was visiting her brother, but his eyes as on her. A few months later on April 15 1921, at age 17 in New Boston, Bowie Co, Texas USA she and Fred were married. Fred was 21 years old.

They had 4 children. Mother and daddy moved to Fannin county when the two older children were very small. Because of daddy's fragile lung problems they followed my Foster grandparents farther west to Foard county where granny and poppa farmed. From there they went farther west to Lorenzo where daddy's aunt and uncle farmed. During the Great Depression they were always pushing forward wherever work took them. Mother, being a teacher (though unlicensed) taught Edith and Rene at home so that they started school in the second grade for Rene and third grade for Edith. They started school in Idalou,, Texas, while mother was a nurse for the doctor there and daddy worked on farms and doing odd jobs until he got a job with the government WPA program. From Idalou they moved to Lubbock, Texas where they bought a lot and daddy built a house with mother's help of course. That is where I was born. When I started to school, mother started working at the school cafeteria. The next year she was made the manager and became a nutritionist. After daddy died in 1968, mother retired and took care of her ailing oldest brother, Henry Moore. Actually, Henry was her half-brother, but she always called him her brother. She was ill when uncle Henry died in November of 1983 and finally went to the doctor. It was too late! In April of 1984 she died with cancer. My precious mother was gone at the age of 80 She was buried in Idalou Cemetery, Idalou, Lubbock Co., TX, USA. 4 of 10 photos View all Documents of Evie Mack Alexander (born Foster)

Married Fred Alexander Apr 15 1921 in New Boston, Bowie Co Texas. She was a mother, wife, teacher, nurse, nutritionist. Evie was born in Simms, Bowie County, Texas USA and her first two daughters were born in Bowie County Texas.

Evie took a correspondence course from what is now East Texas University, but her father, being a very stubborn man, refused her to go to Austin Texas to test for her teaching license. While studying she accepted a position to teach in a one room school and taught about a year, after which she married at 17 years old and took nursing. She spent the rest of her years working, a while for a doctor in Idalou, Lubbock County Texas. Later she did home nursing for those who asked for her, which were many. When I started first grade in Lubbock,Texas, she went to work with the Lubbock public school system from which she retired at age of 67. She had an ill husband for many years and put her 4 daughters through school, sending me , the youngest to college. I'm sure she must have had help in this latest endeavor from my older sisters. In 1984 mother died from cancer.

Evie, my loving mother, was a very dedicated to our family, always going when she was needed whether it be family, friends, or strangers. Even with this she always worked 2 to 3 jobs to make ends meet. Mother was a devout Christian, and taught her daughters to be the same. She was a strict but caring mother and grandmother. Daddy had moved his family to Fannin County Texas from Bowie County Texas , then to Foard County, and on to Lubbock County. Always following the work that could be had during the "Great Depression ". In Idalou, Lubbock County, my older sister was born. Then to Lubbock where I was born. I'm sure she had a rough life after my father got ill with a lung disease and numerous heart attacks, keeping her family fed, clothed. She was a very special person, whom I'm very proud to claim as my mother! Evie died as listed above and was buried in Idalou Cemetery on hers and daddy's anniversary, April 15 1984. They would have been married 48 years if daddy had lived 3 more months. He died on January 20 1968.

Enter a personal reminiscence or story.
I remember when I was small, on Saturday if my parents weren't working, we would go to the grocery store after mother cleaned the house. Then she would make hamburgers or hot dogs for supper after which we'd go to the movie. On other nights in the winter, mother would read to us or we would play games.
