Biography

Julia was born about 1815. Julia Foster ... She passed away about 1880. The courts took her children away at an early age because she was not married to their father.

Bledsoe County Court Minutes, Bk. 8 January 1850, Four children disposed of. Apprintis Bond No 1 Raleigh Foster age 3 bond made for as official of the county Poorhouse. Apprintis Bond No 2 William Foster age 11 to Thomas D Lewis until 21 yrs as a Tanner. Apprintis Bond No 3 Marten Foster age 6, bound to Mikel Gingery until 21 yrs as a carpenter. Apprintis Bond No 4 James Anderson Foster, age 15 is bound until 21 yrs to Paten R Dadney to learn trade of saddler.

James Anderson Foster told his grandson that Dadney was a mean man and he gave him beatings. He left the state for Alabama where he got a job.

17 July 1850 court records indicate that Raleigh Foster was returned to Julia Foster.

She was never married and Julia's father died at about the time her first child was born. Her family was deeply upside but everything was forgiven until she had the second child a few years later. At that point she was disowned by her family, name removed from the family bible and things like that. She was never accepted back into the family.

Only the two oldest sons have been well documented, a few comments have been in letters about the 3 youngest children but not much is known. One of the three is known to have moved/whet to Alabama. One went to Texas and was never heard from again.

She most likely was born in Bledsoe county, Tennessee as were siblings born after 1813 since her parents then lived in Bledsoe county near Lees Station.

Died at the home of her son William "Billy" Foster. US Census records, 1840 and 1880 Bledsoe Tennessee census. 1880 census - Bledsoe County Tennessee, Page 53, Family 370, listed as born 1815, TN, age 65, Single, White, Occupation - keeping house, Head of Household.
