Biography

Private Company H 12th KY Infantry

Son of Patsy Davis and Charles Foster.

Mr. William Foster, one of the oldest and best known citizens of the county, died at the home of his son, J. F. Foster, in West Somerset, Sunday afternoon at 5:15 o'clock. His death was due to a heart Attack. Mr Foster was 94 years old Oct. 16, 1932. He was a Civil War veteran, having served with the 12th Kentucky Regiment of the Union Forces. In spite of his age he was active up until an hour before his death. Saturday he was in Somerset mingling with friends and appeared in good health. He was a member of the White Oak Baptist Church and was a devout Christian gentleman. Mr Foster was born in Wayne county but spent most of his life in this county. He engaged in farming for many years. He was an upright and kind citizen, numbering his friends by his acquaintances. He was of a cheerful disposition and was always considerate of others. His wife died in 1910. The funeral service was held at the West Somerset Baptist Church Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. W. E. Hunter officiating. Interment was in the National Cemetery at Nancy. He is survived by five sons, Sampson and William, of Uma; J.F. Foster of West Somerset; G. E. Foster of Ringgold, and David E. Foster, of Indianapolis, and three daughters, Mrs. Minerva McGahan, of West Somerset; Mrs. Cynthia Cundiff, of Norfleet, and Mrs Sallie Schull, of Cisco, Ill. Mr Foster's legion of friends sympathize with the bereaved ones in their great loss.
