Alonzo Foster, son of Oliver and Hanna Foster, was born in Maine and was three years of age when his father settled in Madison county. 1857, he moved to the eastern part of the county and in 1860 laid out the town of New Douglas. He laid out the town of New Douglas, September 5, 1860, on the west part of the southwest quarter of the northeast quarter of section 16. The original town contained twenty acres. Foster and Owen laid out an addition afterward on the west side of the road, and other additions have since been laid out." [1] [2]
