Carrie was born about 1886 in Florida, daughter of Tom Foster and Olive Barnacastle. She married John Hadley in 1925, then virtually disappeared from public records after the death of her infant son Luverne. Her father's 1949 obituary[1] stated that she lived in Evergreen, Conecuh, Alabama at the time. She died in Mobile, Alabama in 1971.

Carrie's obituary[2] names three sons (Jack C Smith, Fred Hadley, and Sime Hadley) never recorded as living in her household. All three were born prior to Carrie's marriage to John Hadley, leaving doubt as to their paternity.
