Biography

Arthur James Foster is believed to have been born about 1881 at Melbourne in Victoria, Australia. In adulthood Arthur became a bootmaker. When he was about 28 he emigrated to New Zealand …ie, about 1908… and before long married Annie Jennings, on 16th December 1908. ^[1]

Stone's Directory of 1930 shows Arthur and his family resided at 154 Taieri Road in lower Wakari, Dunedin in Otago, with his place of work …his bootmaker's shop… further down the hill at 124 Taieri Road. In his latter working life he's thought to have worked from his bootmaker's shop in the small cluster of shops at the Stuart Street end of Kaikorai Valley Road in Dunedin.

Arthur died in Dunedin on 21st May 1937 at the age of 57. Two days later … on 23rd May … he was buried at Andersons Bay Cemetery in Dunedin. ^[2]
