George Foster was born maybe in 1639. Or there are two different George Foster's one older and the other younger living in Southwark, Surry County, VA about the same time. The Surry County Tithables don't seem to indicate that.
In April of 1663 George Foster of Surry Co., conveyed to John Clements, both of Southwark Parish, surry Co., 50 acres of land , lying on the east side of Gray's Creek,[1] and branch of Reedy Swamp. Witnessed by Nathaniel Stanton and George Blow.
Thomas Foster, son of George Foster decd. was mentioned in the Will of John Clements, Sr. of Surry County, VA in 1704, It's believed that John Clements, Sr.'s daughter named Hannah was married to George Foster and together they had a son Thomas, born abt. 1690 in Surry County, VA. It's possible that Hannah died a short time after his birth, because it would seem that George Foster remarried a women named Anne, who is mentioned in George's Will in 1697. It would seem that Thomas was the only grandchild of George & Hannah Foster was most likely the only child they had together.
If there was only one George Foster born 1639, died 1697, then most likely he was married three times:
George Foster's 3rd wife Anne Sheperd was married twice before George. 1st Thomas Hart and 2nd William Newsome, III
If this is all the same George Foster then he was the George Foster who rendered an account for William Newsome's Estate in 1694/95, giving his age as 55, showing that he (George Foster) was born in the year 1639. The Virginia Magazine of History and Biography, Volumes 47-48, Virginia Historical Society., 1939, p. 270.
Only one George Foster along with his oldest son William Foster is found in the The Surry County TithTables for these years:
