Robert B. Fountaine was born about 1841 in Pittsylvania County of Obediah and Winifred Carter Fountaine. Parents were wed in Pittsylvania on November 7, 1835.
The 1850 and 1860 censuses of Pittsylvania show parents with the following children:
Robert Fountaine would enlist in the CSA on October 14, 1864, and was with the 38th Virginia Infantry, Company D.
Robert was taken prisoner on April 1, 1865 in White Oak Road, Virginia. He would die of disease at Point Lookout prison in southern Maryland on May 22, 1865. From Kitty Dawson “ “ I have no idea if you want this, but here's what I have on this guy: His will was recorded in Pittsylvania Co., VA, on 18 Sep 1865 (Will Book 2, p. 468). In it, he names his grandfather Robert B. Fontaine, and leaves everything to his mother. His will was witnessed by John Beavers. Robert died while a POW at Point Lookout, Maryland. John Beavers was his cousin, son of his great-aunt Elizabeth Fontaine who married William Beavers.
One of my Keens married an Elizabeth Fontaine and I went down that rabbit hole a while back to figure out who she was. Not in this guy's direct line, but tangential.”
