Biography

Jeremiah Fowler was the son of Thomas and Hannah (Jordan) Fowler,[1] born likely born in the early 1680's based on his marriage in 1706.

His father Thomas Fowler wrote his will on January 21, 1725/6, naming son Jeremiah and neighbor Jedediah Titcomb as executors. [2]

Jeremiah married Rebecca Colby on January 6, 1706 at Amesbury, Massachusetts. [3] [4] [1] Rebecca was the daughter of Isaac Sr., who was deceased at the time of their marriage, and Martha (Parratt) Colby.

Although her father Isaac Colby Sr. of Rowley died in 1684, his estate was not settled for years. On February 7, 1725/6, Jeremiah and Hannah Fowler, were among those heirs of Isaac Colby Sr. who petitioned the court to complete the estate division. Widow Martha notified the court on February218, 1725/6 that she was unable to administer her husband's estate, and that Isaac's brother Samuel Colby, also named an executor was now deceased. The court then appointed a committee to assess the estate and complete the division among the heirs. [2]

Rebecca died at Amesbury on October 13, 1753. [3]

Jeremiah died at Amesbury on February 3, 1754. [3]

His will was written on April 10, 1750. In it her names: [5]

  • beloved wife Rebecca
  • daughter Elizabeth Nichols
  • son Thomas, sole executor [5]

His estate was inventoried on March 11, 1754 and was valued at L332 11d with his land holdings including a homestead of 45 acres, 4 acres of meadow and 6 acres of salt marsh being assessed at L306. [5]

  2. Rebecca born on August 6, 1710; died unmarried on July 14, 1736 in her 26th year. [3]
  3. Hannah born on March 14, 1711/12; died unmarried on July 15, 1736 in her 24th year. [3]
  4. Elizabeth born on January 13, 1714/15; married Aaron Nichols on March 18, 1741/2. [3]
