Biography

Henry Robert was born in 1897 in Southwark, London, England. In 1901 he was living with his grandparents in Horsleydown, St Olave, Southwark, London England after his mother had left the family home. His grandmother died in 1906, and in 1911 he was living with his father, a housekeeper and a boarder at 94 Abbeyfield Rd S E Bermondsey, London, England, and was working as a vanguard. In 1924 he married Yvonne (also known as Frances) who had a daughter, Sybil, from a previous marriage/relationship. There were no children from this marriage. On 7th October 1929 Henry, Yvonne and Sybil boarded the ship Hobsons Bay sailing from Southhampton to Sydney. His occupation was listed as Timberman. In 1930 Sybil was a pupil at Oonoonba State School in Queensland. In 1934 Henry and Yvonne are listed on the Queensland Commonwealth Electoral Roll as living in Oonoonba. In 1939 the Townsville Electoral Roll lists Henry and Yvonne as living at 10 Victoria St, Townsville, Queensland. In 1939 Yvonne died at Murwillumbah, New South Wales. (My understanding from my childhood was that this was the result of a motor accident.) On 16th October 1948 he married Ivy Elizabeth Veronica Fowler at Revesby Congregational Church, Revesby, New South Wales. On 26th October 1950 their only child, Lynnette Barbara Fowler, was born. The family moved around a great deal between then and August 1959, when they moved to 96 Devitre St, Lambton, New South Wales, where they lived until Henry died.

He passed away on 2nd February 1963, the result of a blood infection incurred through a workplace accident.
